Brace yourself for an unforgettable adventure on the La Roca Canyoneering tour… Imagine rappelling down rainforest waterfalls and scrambling through a jungle canyon near Arenal Volcano! Sound too good to be true? Well it is not only true, but you do not even need experience!
The day starts off when you are picked up from your local area hotel and brought to the canyoning facilities located between Lake Arenal and Arenal Volcano. Once you arrive your guide will size you up and suit you up with the latest safety gear for adventure. Your guide will then provide a brief safety and instructional course and then you will be on your way into the canyon.
The walk down to the canyon is brief, but surrounded by beauty. Once you arrive, your guide will hook you up so you can descend down the first falls. This truly is an amazing experience, especially on the first one which is sure to get your adrenaline pumping! No worries though, a second guide will be positioned at the base of the falls, controlling a secondary safety line at all times.
Once you gain your bearings at the bottom you will continue with another guide scrambling through the canyon to your next obstacle. The La Roca course is among the tops in Central America, providing an exciting variety of rappels including tall and small, through and around. There is also a really cool hanging bridge, small Tarzan Swing and a zipline, so you are sure to be thrilled and entertained throughout the entire tour.
Of course, this is canyoning and rappelling meaning that you will be going downhill the entire way. When you reach the bottom, you will be at the scenic Rio Arenal where you can walk through and splash in the water. After a few minutes you will hike back up to the top along a groomed trail. The hike up is physical, so you must be in reasonably good physical condition to do this tour.
After the tour you will be provided with lunch and then returned to your hotel. The La Roca Canyoning tour is one of the highest rated tours we offer. While its not for everybody, it is often the highlight of the trip for many of our more adventurous visitors. In addition to lunch and transportation this tour also includes dry bags, fruits, guides and equipment.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! By far the best activity I participated in while in Costa Rica. The tour guides were the best, they were friendly, thorough with instructions and were very cautious... and the fresh fruit and meal after rappelling was the cherry on top!

We loved this tour and the guides were fantastic. What we did not like at all was the lunch that was tagged on. Unlike the Whitewater Rafting lunch, which was a unique and interesting experience, this lunch was basically in the lobby of an office. First, we had to wait a long time for a ride from the Canyon area then we had to wait a very long time for the food and it wasn't anything special. We would have preferred to pay a little less and visit a restaurant of our own choice and/or just have more free time. We ended up feeling a little trapped as we waited because they were our ride back to the hotel. Because time is such a big commodity on vacation we did not like loosing it to the long wait for our ride and lunch.

The tour company did not pick us up at the scheduled time and although the situation was corrected within an hour, our tour group had their tour delayed waiting for us to arrive. The tour was great once we arrived at the location.

This was our best adventure. My adult son loved it and its his best memory of our vacation. I was also excited and loved the adventure, except the hike back up. I had real difficulty breathing with the heavy harness. Our guide was so kind, he took my harness and that really helped me with the hike and breathing. This was scary, exciting, and an adventure of a lifetime.

I am an older person and have to say....this was the highlight of my trip!!!!!!! I had a blast........it was raining so I was unable to get pictures but one of the party members had a water proof camera and they still took pictures of us. It was incredible!!! I am a new women!

Too many people on the tour which required a lot of waiting. Also, the 'lunch' was served after the tour at ~5 pm which was way too late. They did not inform us that this was the case, so we were unprepared.

Had never done this before but both my wife and I found it within our level of ability. Guides were very helpful and all about safety but made it a fun experience as well, they were nice young men. Just the two of us on the tour so we had a lot of one-on-one instruction. Expect to get wet but the water is cool and inviting. Lunch was good although we ate before 11AM (earlier that usual for us but tour was short due to a group of two).

Thought there might be more than 6 rappells and seemed to go by fast. However, the guides were great and very knowledgable. We did have an amazing experience getting to see spider monkeys leaping 40-50 meters from tree limb to tree limb. Incredible!

The tour was exciting and fun. My only negative comment was we had to wait a long time to be picked up (the guides were apparently confused about who they were picking up or something???) and there was a lot of waiting around before the tour started with no explanation about what was happening, what we were doing there, or what the plan was going to be. The guides didn't really explain what we were going to do. The small place they dropped us off for lunch afterward was really great!!!

Again, another incredible excursion from start to finish. Only recommendation would be to put someone more extroverted on pickup from hotel bus ride -- the man was nice on the excursion but did not create much excitement on the way over. Also, at the end there should be an option to just buy individual pictures instead of a whole expensive bundle.

I was nervous about the height on the first rappel, but the guides talked me through it and this became my #1 activity on the trip. We did more on this adventure than I expected and loved it. The guides were always right there if I needed extra assistance. Also, on the climb back up the mountain to the starting point, I was the slowest but a guide stayed with me and my children and told us some interesting facts about the plants and scenery on the walk up. I can't say enough about this experience! Also, the lunch was excellent.

Tour was conducted well. It was just a little bit too extreme for me. I got used to the extreme heights but the water was so cold that it made it unenjoyable.

I was absolutely terrified during this tour...the entire time. I would have opted out if there was a way to get back to the starting point. While I am so glad I had the experience and made it through, it would have been better if I had known more specifics...like the part about having to jump from a distance into the water and that ziplining was part of it.
