Overview

Riding high up in the mountains along the Continental Divide where the Atlantic and Pacific regions merge, you’ll find fresh air, rolling farmland, and breathtaking views. On a clear day it is even possible to see the ocean as well as Arenal Lake and the Arenal Volcano.

Beginning in the cloud forest ecosystem it is more likely you’ll start off being enveloped in a magical mist as your guide leads you through private woodland trails surrounded by jungle orchids and thick arboreal vines deep in the heart of the rain forest canopy. Exotic bird calls may attract your attention as life in the tropical forest seems especially vibrant away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Opening out onto a majestic mountaintop pasture you’ll be given a small break where you can relax and take pictures or ride around freely if you prefer a galloping pace. As you continue along on back country roads you’ll encounter small farms of the villagers and observe the tranquility of their pastoral lifestyle. You’ll pass by rustic barns, grazing cattle and catch glimpses of people working the fields or hanging out clothes to dry. From your vantage point you’ll see the real Costa Rica and get a feel for what makes the Pura Vida lifestyle so vital.

You don’t need to be an experienced rider to take this tour as these well groomed, well behaved friendly horses know the pathways and are trained to accommodate all levels of ability. Horses are an integral part of the culture here where every town, large or small, hosts an annual rodeo. They even teach their horses to dance!

This two hour tour includes round trip transportation from the Monteverde area as well as a bilingual guide.

It was fun. Horses were very nimble. Ground was really slippery so I wouldn't send inexperienced people.

This was an average tour. The guide was nice, the horses were fun, but this was not what I envisioned for this type of tour... I was looking for more of a ride through the forest to see different things, look at animals, ride through the jungle, maybe a river... As it was part of the adventuras zip-lining establishment, I felt it lacked the charm and culture of the real Costa Rica!
