The canopy zipline is one of the most popular adventure activities in Costa Rica. The zipline was originally created in the 1970s as a way for scientists to explore the canopy of the rainforest. Adventurers quickly caught on and began elevating one end so they could zip from one end to the other. Eventually these zips were developed into courses with platforms in between. Some have even evolved to include small bridges and or Tarzan swings! While ziplines tours are available in many locations in Costa Rica, the best are in in Monteverde, Arenal, Rincon de la Vieja and Manuel Antonio.
Aventuras Zipline: This is a great course and probably the best value for a zipline in Monteverde. The course includes 16 zips up to 600 meters long and 80 meters high. The course also includes an enormous Tarzan swing!
Selvatura: The Selvatura course is a great course for those combining with hanging bridges. The zipline course offers 15 zips and a Tarzan swing.
Sky Adventures Monteverde: The Sky canopy zipline can only be accessed via a gondola ride through the cloud forest. This is a unique experience, but should not be confused as a wildlife observation activity. The Sky course offers 9 cables up to 770 meters long and 130 meters high.
Canopy Zipline Athica: This is the best value of all of the zipline courses in the Arenal area. The course offers 10 zips between 17 platforms and also includes a huge Tarzan swing.
Ecoglide Zipline: The Ecoglide zipline course is located at the base of Arenal Volcano. It offers double lines for safety and a total of 15 ziplines. This fun course also includes a large Tarzan swing.
Sky Adventures Arenal: This is the sister company of Sky in Monteverde. Similar to the Monteverde course, participants access the zipline via a gondola. The course features 8 zips of varying lengths and heights.
There are several canopy zipline tours available in the Rincon de la Vieja area. These include courses at Hacienda Guachipelin, Borinquen and Canyon Lodge. Our favorite is the one at Hacienda Guachipelin, which is constructed in a canyon. This varied course includes 12 ziplines, a couple of climbing walls, a Tarzan swing and some really cool platforms that make it all possible.
El Santuario Canopy Zipline Adventure: This is our favorite canopy zipline tour in manuel Antonio. The course features 11 ziplines which are connected by 6 hanging bridges and 14 platforms. The longest zipline is around 1,400 meters making it one of the longest in Central America. The course also includes a belay rappel making this one of the most exciting canopy tours in Costa Rica!
Titi Canopy Zipline: This course offers the best value of the zipline s in the Manuel Antonio area. It features 12 ziplines up to 450 meters long.
Congo Trails Canopy Zipline: The Congo Trails course is our favorite in the Papagayo and Playa Hermosa area. The course features 11 ziplines up to 400 meters long and also includes 3 hanging bridges. Visitors can also sign up to enter the Congo Park which has a monkey exhibit.
Monkey Jungle Zipline Course: The Monkey Jungle Zipline is a great course if you are staying in the Tamarindo or Flamingo areas. The course features 7 zips and a big Tarzan swing.
Terraventuras Zipline: This is the only zipline in the Southern Caribbean area that we recommend. The tour includes your choice of a horseback or tractor ride to first zipline and then you take off and soar from platform to platform.
There are plenty of other canopy tours in Costa Rica that we have not included on this list. As you can see, this is a popular activity with plenty of available options.
