Overview

A truly Caribbean experience awaits you at the budget-friendly La Costa De Papito Hotel of Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. The atmosphere is everything at this laid-back lodge, self-advertised as "bungalows for the noble savage." Jungle backs the property, while palm trees and tropical gardens provide a colorful palette in every direction. Of course, we can't leave out the beautiful Blue Flag beach, which is right across the street. Lodge amenities include a breakfast restaurant, tropical gardens, spa and beauty salon, and WiFi in some public areas.

Puerto Viejo is a fun little seaside fishing village. Visitors will enjoy the Rasta vibe and laid-back atmosphere. The streets are lined with restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops. Guests of La Costa de Papito can drive a few minutes to town or take a ten-minute bike ride.

Many activities are available from the Southern Caribbean. You can visit the nearby indigenous Bri Bri village for a unique cultural experience. For nature and wildlife, consider Cahuita National Park or Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge. Both offer the chance to see exotic animals, jungle, and beautiful beaches. Snorkeling can be fantastic from March through May and late August through September. Of course, adventurers can go ziplining or hike through the jungles.

Located across the street from beautiful Playa Cocles, guests of the lodge will enjoy a jungle beach experience. Cocles Beach is perfect for swimming, surfing, or long walks. The white sand beach has great surfing on the north end, while the middle of the beach and south end are better for swimming.

Downtime at the lodge may just be what the doctor ordered. The laidback vibe all but guarantees you a state of relaxation and pura vida. Those seeking ultimate relaxation can enjoy a massage or facial at the Lodge's Indulgence Spa. In addition to traditional treatments, the menu also includes papaya facials, full-body chocolate skin treatments, and lemongrass coconut foot treatments! The Beauty Salon offers manicures and pedicures, bikini waxes, and hairstyling (yup, you can even get Caribbean braids or extensions!).

La Costa de Papito offers twelve primitive bungalows, spread throughout the tropical gardens. The no-frills bungalow rooms are constructed with beautiful hardwoods, bamboo, and traditional tile. The rooms offer beds with mosquito nets, natural ventilation, a porch or terrace, and a private bathroom. Note that the rooms do NOT offer air conditioners or televisions.

This Lodge is not for everybody but is a fantastic choice for anybody seeking a no-frills jungle beach experience. It's across the street from the beach and close enough to bike to town. The bungalows are cool and unique, perfect for the "noble savage."

Lodge just beside a road to a bungalow park. No windows so early in the morning too much noice of cars and motocycles.

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. We loved the quaintly decorated bungalows, and very much enjoyed the covered terrace outside each bungalow, were we would spend time at night playing cards and enjoying a Guaro Sour...

Very rustic hotel. Perhaps to much... No A/C in rooms

Not quite as quiet as I'd hoped, but really enjoyed the experience overall. Nice that they lend beach chairs, umbrellas, and towels for free. Restaurant food was satisfactory.
