Overview

The award-winning Capitan Suizo Hotel offers a beachfront boutique hotel experience in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Guests of this exclusive hotel will enjoy personalized service, quality amenities, and a great location. Surrounded by tall trees and lush tropical gardens, you'll feel at one with nature, while enjoying the convenience of being a short distance from town. Hotel amenities include beachfront access, an onsite spa, freeform swimming pool by the beach, souvenir shop, tropical gardens, restaurant, and WiFi in some public areas.

Located in the tropical dry forest of Guanacaste, Tamarindo is one of the driest beach destinations in Costa Rica for the majority of the year. The town is active and lively with restaurants and bars, and small shops lining the streets. The beach is the main attraction, famous for the impressive surf, but Tamarindo also has its share of great swimming and boogie boarding locations making it a terrific location for just about anybody that loves the beach. All of this and more is within a short drive or about a 15-minute walk from the hotel.

Aside from the beach and town, many activities are available in Tamarindo. Catamaran cruises offer a wonderful way to relax and enjoy the scenic Guanacaste coastline or simply enjoy an easy going ride. Riverboat safaris at Palo Verde National Park provide the opportunity to see many bird species, monkeys, iguanas, and giant crocs. There are several canopy zipline courses in Tamarindo to choose from, each allowing you to soar like an eagle through the canopy treetops. Or take an all day adventure at one of the Rincon de la Vieja adventure ranches.

Of course, you can also just relax and enjoy the pura vida life at Hotel Capitan Suizo. Take a stroll down the beach or bathe in the warm waters of the Pacific. Surrounded by tall trees, the freeform swimming pool and lounge area provide a welcome break from the midday sun. Monkeys and other wildlife frequently visit the grounds, adding to the experience.

The hotel's Aromas del Mar Spa rests peacefully among the tropical gardens. Expert therapists provide a variety of treatments and massages and can help you decide which treatment is best for you. Of course, all of this is offered with the sounds of the ocean in the background.

Dining at the hotel's open-air seaside restaurant is both scenic and delightful. The restaurant serves a mix of Costa Rican and International cuisine, using fresh and organic ingredients whenever possible. Also, the hotel offers romantic candle light dinners as an added service.

Surrounded by tropical gardens, the 35 rooms at Hotel Capitan Suizo are divided between several room styles including rooms, bungalows, and suites. All accommodations are spacious and tastefully decorated with antique photographs of Costa Rica, Costa Rican arts, and local craftsmanship. Each offers a terrace or balcony, views to the tropical gardens, and some offer ocean views. In addition, all room categories offer ceiling fans, air-conditioning, mini-refrigerator, coffee or tea facilities, phones, safe deposit box, radio, and WiFi.

The Superior Rooms are in the main building of the hotel, near the lobby and reception area. These rooms have a balcony or terrace and a spacious bathroom.

Bungalows are individual units set in the tropical gardens. These rooms offer a terrace with a hammock and spacious bathrooms with a double whirlpool and outside (hot water) shower.

The Beachfront Garden Rooms are connected and have a wooden deck with a hammock and ocean views. These rooms also have spacious bathrooms with a shower and a Jacuzzi.

The Beachfront Suites are in the same unit, one on the ground floor and one on the upper level. These rooms have direct beach access and ocean views. The ground floor unit offers a living area, a large terrace, and also a spacious bathroom with shower. The upper floor unit has a living area, wide balcony with a hammock, and a spacious bathroom with a double Jacuzzi and shower.

Other amenities vary by room style, so please check the Amenities Section for details of what each room style offers.

NOTE: To take advantage of the sounds of the ocean and nature as well as create a serene ambiance, the rooms at this hotel do not have a television.

Hotel Capitan Suizo will be doing maintenance work and will be closed from October 1st to November 4th, 2024. There is a sector of the hotel that is under going construction starting April 2024 and until June 2025. Thank you while continue to improve our offerings.

Perfect in every way! I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Tamarindo. What a gem! The rooms were large and beautifully decorated. The staff was exceptional! They even made a big deal about celebrating my birthday. The grounds were gorgeous. The owners were obviously eco-conscious. The beach was beautiful! The hotel was an ideal distance from the town - easy to walk to, but out of the fray. Loved the cats and monkeys on the grounds. Highly recommend this hotel!!!

There were cats all over the place and I'm allergic to cats. When I sat down in the lobby chair and then got up, my cloths were full of cat hairs. I had to change my cloths.

This may have been our favorite hotel. The staff were wonderful. They allowed me to practice my horrible Spanish ! Rosa, the concierge, was the best. Enjoyed many an hour by the pool. Restaurant was very good

Loved this hotel

12/14/2022

Wonderful hotel. The bungalow was perfect and the staff amazing. They greeted us by name and made sure we were happy. Fantastic location - away from the "busy" but close enough if you wanted to walk to town. Food in the restaurant was excellent.

Fantastic staff and they went above and beyond

12/13/2021

This was the only hotel that kind let us down. Probably wouldn't stay there again. Towels were completely gray, dingy and thread bare. We were in the nicest room I believe and simple things that a hotel at this level should have were missing. Only 1 towel per guest, no robes. A/C was just a wall unit and luckily it worked ok. This was the one place where we went the whole trip where the staff wasn't that friendly and acted like they really didn't want to help us. Sitting on beach or pool we were never one time asked if we'd like a drink or food. I just found that very strange. It was not a bad hotel by any means, but for the price we paid, service and amenities should have been better. The towels were in desperate need to be replaced. They were worse than you'd get at a motel 6. I would not stay at this hotel again.

Staff was lovely and grounds were beautiful. The bungalow was nice, but bathroom was very dated and not enjoyable.

02/15/2021

I absolutely loved this place and I would go back here again in a heart beat. The staff were friendly and helpful, the facility was well kept and clean, we were right on the ocean, the food was amazing. It was fantastic.

11/26/2019

Location was great. Food was much better than expected. Staff was friendly and accommodating.

08/02/2019

Beautiful hotel & our favorite spot on the trip. Delicious breakfast.

01/26/2019

My only comment would be that the food quality was a bit inconsistent. Some nights great - other nights mediocre. Never was it poor though.

11/27/2018

A truly amazing hotel and staff.

06/24/2017

We had stayed here before so we knew what to expect. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Beautiful property.

06/18/2017

Hotel was as expected, and everyone was nice there. Had a nice time. Tamarindo could have been cleaner.

04/25/2017

Excellent and beautiful.

03/15/2017

Loved the monkeys!!

02/25/2017

Love, love, love this hotel! If we could go back and do it all over again, we would have cut out Flamingo Beach and stayed the rest of our trip here. It was perfect in every way except trouble with the keycard. The staff had to replace our door handle and lock on the first day, and we again had to get new key cards the next day when they stopped working. Aside from that, this hotel was our very favorite! Small, intimate, close to activities and restaurants, good food, lovely wildlife . . . very romantic and just perfect!

01/08/2017

Delightful hotel right on the beach. Howler monkeys outside our deck

12/07/2016

Amazing location, beautiful beach. Tamarindo is an amazing little town

11/30/2016

I would definitely stay here again. The rooms, pool and beach front are beautiful, the location was the perfect distance from town to allow peace and quiet but still an easy walk to town and restaurants. I would highly recommend this hotel.

08/13/2016

Lovely location and property, very pleasant staff, a bit over priced

07/15/2016

We loved the hotel and the special attention given to each guest. We were sad that the beach was not what we had expected...lots of debris and sand compact. The hotel was amazing. Rebecca and Marissa were exceptional at the restaurant. The front desk even called our room when the monkeys came on the property...I am a teacher and wanted some pictures.

06/30/2016

Feel that the ratings may be lower because the hotel came after Nayara. Might not be a fair comparison.

06/26/2016

We loved being able to walk out of our room onto the beach. Also loved seeing the wildlife,
Especially monkies and iguanas! But a few crabs got into our room- it seemed like the doors were not sealed very well.

06/10/2016

We enjoyed our stay here but some of the staff were a little cold like they were bored with tourists.

05/29/2016

Room and hotel were awesome

04/22/2016

We had ants and bugs in our room. Told the front desk but nothing was done. WIfi was really really weak, even in the lobby. All our hotels up to this point were just really really nice and clean. Since this one was older, I was a little disappointed. It was more of a walk to restaurants but you had more of a private beach. I would probably stay here again.

04/21/2016

This was an outstanding hotel/resort. Staff was so friendly and helpful and the grounds and accommodations were fantastic! Monkeys in the trees and iguanas on the ground!!

03/22/2016

Had a small problem the first night, we had a leak from the shower flooding the room. The staff was great, came promptly and cleaned the room. The room was really nice and all you had to do was open the door to walk onto the beach. The view was beautiful.

02/23/2016

Great hotel in a great location just outside the town.

01/18/2016

Amazing room and view but the demographic was a little old.

12/02/2015

OK, is this a trick category with Capitan Suizo? A 10 is not good enough. Our bedroom was on the beach and we listened to the ocean each night. And, surprise, not a TV in any room. What a restful and enjoyable respite. Restaurant was excellent. Prices were very reasonable. Breakfast is so good here. This place deserves all its accolades. We will be back and soon.

08/20/2015

Food was great!!!!!!!! Loved our accomendations!!!!!!! Enjoyed the beach!!!!!!!!!!! Would like to revisit this location again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

08/01/2015

food and rooms are excellent. staff are very friendly

07/31/2015

We probably appreciated this recommendation most of all. The accommodation, staff and food were all excellent. The setting could not have been better. We loved being on the beach and being able to walk to town every day.

06/18/2015

AC in our unit was weak, they added a dehumindifier and charged it, but it was still weak. THAT SAID great beach front room. Loved it!

05/22/2015

Air conditioning at an additional cost of $40 plus tax per night.

03/13/2015

Nice hotel right on the water which was nice. Short walk to town which was perfect. Staff was outstanding, as were the amenities. The only challenge that we had was a lot of bugs in our room, which was expected. The problem was that we woke up every morning with bites all over.
