Overview

Aboard this 66 foot catamaran sailboat you’ll spend an amazing day cruising along Costa Rica’s Gold Coast. The attentive crew will pamper you with cold tropical drinks as you laze around the spacious deck enjoying the sun or finding a comfortable spot in the shade. Along the way you might like to use the trolling line to catch a fish. You’ll drop anchor in the bay of a remote island where you can snorkel or swim to shore. Afterwards you’ll enjoy a freshly prepared lunch before heading back along the coastline. On the afternoon cruise you’ll have a chance to watch a spectacular sunset.

You’ll be picked up and brought to the beach where you will meet the friendly crew who will help you into a dinghy for a short ride out to the anchored catamaran. Capable of speeds up to 25 knots under sail, this immaculate, custom designed, well appointed multi-hull is sometimes called the Rolls Royce of Costa Rica’s day sailing charters.

Once onboard you can explore the expansive topsides, absorbing the nautical nooks and crannies where you’ll spend your time luxuriating. Maybe you would like to sit and gaze off the bow, scanning the seas for dolphins, flying fish or even a breaching whale in season.

Your accommodating crew will greet you with a cold tropical drink as you begin today’s cruise. Gliding gently through the water you’ll follow the beautiful Guanacaste coastline with its white sand beaches, mountainous background and tropical jungles. The captain will be looking for the best snorkeling areas based on the current weather conditions of the day.

After about an hour of sailing, the anchor will drop at a remote island beach and the crew will unpack the well maintained, clean, quality snorkeling gear. If you are not a fan of snorkeling, you can always go for a swim off the boat or over to the beach to hunt for shells. You can also opt to try out a Stand Up Paddle board or use a pool noodle floatation device.

Underwater life in this area includes over 70 species of colorful reef fish such as angel fish, sergeant majors or the ever friendly pufferfish. Also you might see octopus, spotted rays, or one of the many varieties of sea turtles. It is impossible to predict just what will be visible on any given day due to the ever changing conditions, but the fun is in the exploration!

You will spend up to an hour and a half frolicking in the water, beachcombing or sunning yourself on deck listening to good music before lunch will be ready. Lunch onboard the Marlin del Rey is a light meal consisting of either a chicken dish or pasta salad, chips with homemade guacamole dip with the traditional Costa Rican pico de gallo salsa, fresh fruit and homemade chocolate chip cookies. With an open bar you are welcome to a cold refreshing drink of your choice throughout the day.

Heading back to the beach you might enjoy a little onboard dancing or just relaxing after all the day’s recreational activities. You can spend time getting to know your congenial crew members with their natural Costa Rican charm and learn a bit about the culture. On the afternoon sunset cruise, you’ll watch the magical disappearing act of the setting sun as it sinks into the sea sending out colorful rays shooting across the sky.

This half day sailing tour includes licensed captain and bilingual crew, snorkeling equipment, open bar, fresh fruit snacks and a light meal. One way transport time can take up to an hour and forty five minutes depending on traffic and the location of your lodging.

Transportation is not included, clients need to arrive to Chiringuito Restaurant to pick up on the beach.

Tour operators seemed a bit disorganized at first, but it was a lovely time.

so fun! Staff was great!!

Amazing day! Captain stopped so we could observe animals in their habitat (saw humpbacks breaching for about 15 mins) Dinner was good.

08/17/2023

The boat had more people than expected so it was a little crowded. Also was wanting more quality area to snorkel in. However, the food, staff, and overall experience was good.

Love this experience.

This tour was more than we expected! We enjoyed non-alcoholic drinks that the bar made special for us, the food was great, and we had so much fun snorkeling and swimming around. To top it off, the sunset on the way home was amazing!!!

Sadly it rained most of the trip, which is why my expectations were not fully met. However the Capitan, bar tenders and staff were very personable and helpful. We anchored in a calm bay, but snorkeling was a No Go (due to water murkiness). The food was tasty and plentiful.

Unfortunately it rained almost the entire ride. Otherwise it would have been perfect. Not their fault, it just made for rough sailing. But the included beverage service and food was great! Snorkeling was kind of cut short due the weather but that didn't bother us. I love catamaran cruises and this met expectations based on previous experiences.

This was the highlight of our vacation. Absolutely stunning views of the bay. Weather was perfect. It was not hot, humid or raining. Food and drinks served on board were great, especially the cocktails. I tipped each member of the boat crew.

This was my favorite part of the trip- what a great way to see how beautiful Costa Rica is

Logistics... took four boats to fill the boats and started way past tico time.
We did not read this cruise as a booze cruise... but it certainly was a party boat. I enjoyed being outdoors for the afternoon but would not select this as it should have been listed as a party cruise with open full service bar and music. Also no chance for snorkeling. This cruise is meant for party goers and should be advertised as such.

Drinks were made fresh w/ top quality alcohol & fresh fruit. Dinner was scrumptious! Snorkeling was fun, and crew even helped to point out some of the sea life under the water. No real dance space though as it was a full tour. Still had a fabulous time & met some great people! The crew members were young, handsome & really enjoyed their jobs. They did a great job of commingling & making sure our needs were met.

Beautiful sailing experience. Very good lunch and plenth of drinks flowing. Obviously, seeing loads of colorful underwater sea life is not what the Guanacaste area is noted for, but we saw a few good things and enjoyed the experience quite a lot. Nice timing on the sunset! Our driver Manny was right there (as he had promised) to pick us up once we landed and took us back to Bosque del Mar

Red tide wouldn’t permit snorkeling but it was still a nice day.

05/23/2017

The bus was very crowded, but the guides were helpful and accommodating. I had some trepidation about boarding the dinghy, then transferring to the boat, but the tour staff was friendly, helpful, patient and non-judgmental. The cruise was obviously more geared to the "party crowd," but the experience was nice.

All good, would recommend it except the snorkeling was not good - I'd snorkel somewhere else.

02/21/2016

I didn't expect there to be so many people on the boat and so much booze flowing, but it was a very nice time and a blast to be on the water. Great sunset too! Would highly recommend to others.

Great tour!

Very fun!

It was a great trip. Unfortunately, there was something stinging in the water (jellyfish?). I wished that I would have remembered to bring bananas to attract more fish. As far as I know, guides didn't bring any either. I loved sailing into the sunset, and seeing some dolphins on the way.
