Overview

Congo Trails features a thrilling high flying zip lining experience you won’t want to miss. Located in a protected forest preserve with abundant plant and animal life, this well established company provides an authentic encounter with Nature as you zip through the tops of a giant tree canopy just like the monkeys who live there. Custom engineered cables and back up lines ensure your safety while friendly bilingual professional guides lead you through the canopy course. In addition there are 3 hanging bridges suspended between the trees high above the ground as part of the skyway path to the platforms.

You’ll be picked up from your lodging and brought to Congo Trails ziplining headquarters located in a natural forest that has existed for hundreds of years. Because of this there is an abundance of wildlife here including tropical plants, birds, iguanas and families of monkeys. You will meet your guides who will fit you into a harness and helmet that you will wear throughout the duration of the tour. You will also be provided with a pair of gloves.

You’ll go on a short hike to the first zip line where you will enter the forest canopy surrounded by a mountainous landscape. Your guides will explain how the zip lining equipment works and answer any questions you may have. Then you’ll be ready to get hooked onto the first cable and zip to the next platform where another guide will be there to assist you. These beautiful wooden platforms are built high up in the branches of the giant Guanacaste trees for which the province is named. You will find placards on many of the trees identifying the type of tree you land in.

You will cross over 3 hanging bridges high in the tree tops as you make your way to some of the platforms. In between cables you will be clipped to safety lines to prevent you from any accidental falls. At times you will also be doing some uphill hiking at ground level. It is best to wear closed shoes such as hiking boots or tennis shoes with good traction as you walk across the bridges and foot paths. You’ll be surrounded by the sounds of the tropical forest including bird and insect calls. Your knowledgeable guides will be sure to point out and identify any wildlife that might be visible on the day of your visit.

If you bring your own GoPro camera you can ask for a helmet that has a special mount for it. For an extra charge your guides will take many photos and videos for you as you zip over the 11 cables and 14 platforms up to 1,000 feet above the ground. From your aerial vantage point you will see phenomenal views both looking down into the tropical forest as well as out across the spectacular mountainous landscape.

For your grand finale your guides will show you how to fly like Superman by simply attaching the cable shackles to the back of your harness. In this position you can soar horizontally, hands free for the ultimate zip line experience. You can even zip completely upside down imagining yourself as one of the monkeys swinging from tree to tree.

Back down on the ground you will go back to the Congo Trails office to return your safety gear and harness equipment. It may be interesting to know that there is a sanctuary for rescued wildlife animals on the premises for an additional fee. Included in this awesome half day adventure is round trip transportation, professional bilingual guides, zip lining fees and bottled water. Transport times can take up to 1 hour each way depending on the location of your lodging as well as local traffic conditions.

This is a wonderful opportunity to explore the forest canopy from top to bottom and create lasting memories of your Costa Rican vacation.

This was a very nice tour but if you are looking for a "thrill", this one is more family friendly and calm. The experience is wonderful and the guides are funny and friendly. I think I expected to have longer, faster, higher runs in Costa Rica. It sounds like some other locations offer this. My family really enjoyed it though.

I'll admit, I'm not a ziplining kind of guy, and I booked this more for the family. They had a lot of fun, and I had fun, too, despite it not being my favorite thing. The staff there were very nice and helpful. But what I will always remember about the experience, believe it or not, was the bus driver. The drive there was on some very narrow, hilly roads. At one point, he stopped the bus to talk to the driver of a truck heading the other way. People in the front of our bus who knew Spanish said he was telling the other driver "you'll never make it up that hill. Turn around, it's too dangerous." On the way back to the hotel after ziplining, we passed a car who had caught one wheel in a ditch, stranding a young couple. They took out a towing strap, and our bus driver towed that car out of the ditch with us still in the bus! We gave him a standing ovation. Then I heard someone mention that while we were off ziplining, this bus driver got on a bicycle and went back to that truck we'd met on the way there, and helped direct him to turn around and get out of the dangerous roads. Now this was Pura Vida come alive, and I will never forget that bus driver. It has even made me rethink my life and make me want to try to help others more when I can.

Ended up having a private tour because we drove ourselves (which I would recommend if you're staying close enough). The guides were great and super friendly. I was expecting the ziplines to be a bit higher and longer but overall we had a great time and would recommend.

The zip lining was great. We had to wait an hour and a half after our zip lining was done to go back to the resort due to other guests doing an ATV tour.
