Surf Lessons in Tamarindo are taught at an ideal Costa Rican beach with regular gentle wave action for learning how to surf. Surfing is an activity well-loved by people of all ages. All you need are good swimming skills and a sense of adventure.
The tour will begin when you are picked up at your hotel in Tamarindo or the surrounding area. If you are staying in Tamarindo, you may get picked up on ATVs so please make a note if you would like to make other arrangements.
You’ll be taken to a sandy beach at Tamarindo where your instructor will explain safety instructions, surfing etiquette and directions on how to “pop” up on the board in the ideal position. You’ll learn the importance of placing your hands and feet in the correct position in order to maintain balance. The well trained, enthusiastic and fun instructors will teach you all you need to know to get you standing on your board and riding the waves in no time.
After practicing your moves on shore, your instructor will lead you out into the ocean to catch some waves allowing you to put into practice what you’ve learned. Depending on your physical fitness level, some people learn right away while others need more time to practice. Your instructor will stay with you giving you the support you need to get the hang of the sport. Either way, surf lessons are a lot of fun and the perfect thing to try while on your beach vacation.
Have you ever wondered why so many people are enthusiastic about surfing? It’s a meditative, active and thrilling sport combination that allows you to spend the day out on the ocean. It is also a wonderful physical activity that activates core muscles and provides a full body workout. Guanacaste surf lessons provide an opportunity to stay fit while enjoying some play time at the beach.
This tour includes a professional surf instructor, high quality surf board, bottled water and transportation from Tamarindo, Flamingo and JW Marriot Guanacaste. It can take 15 to 45 minutes each way from your hotel to the beach, depending on your pick-up location. Combined time of transportation and surf lesson can be between 2.5 and 3 hours. Please bring your bathing suit, towel, sun protection and a rash guard. Rash guards (water shirts) are available for rent from your surf instructor if you should choose to rent one.

Our instructor did a great job despite very little surf, which is apparently common during high season. Still enjoyable, but not really the experience we'd been hoping for.

The guides were awesome and so helpful! I absolutely loved this experience, and really enjoyed learning how to surf.

We took an impromptu lesson the day before so we had the balance part down but needed to know how to read waves and paddle in and this is exactly what we got with this lesson. Guide was very knowledgeable and took us to a part of the beach that wasn't too busy which was appreciated.

As an older couple - 60 & 54 and given that this was our first time on a surf board (a bucket list thing for me) we had a great time. We both managed (just) to get up at least once. Fortunately the waves were quite infrequent so it was a leisurely pace which suited us and with just 4 people in the class we received good instruction - he was very patient with us - just ability let us down. We both suffered the next day from aches and pains from muscles that were not used to being used.

Guides were very helpful in helping us surf. Great with the kids. It was too windy to go on the day we had originally booked and the owner was helpful in rearranging the excursion.
