Private surf lessons in Tamarindo is a great idea if you would like to learn or enhance your surfing ability with the one-on-one support of a professional instructor.
Taking a private surfing lesson gives you individual personalized attention from the instructor and allows participants to have a more intimate learning experience. It is a great option for singles, couples or families who would like to ensure they are the only ones taking the lesson.
Your private surf lesson will begin when you are picked up from your hotel and taken to the beach at Tamarindo. If your hotel is in Tamarindo, clients are often picked up on an ATV, so other arrangements would need to be made if you would prefer to be picked up in a regular vehicle. You’ll be driven to a sandy beach, chosen for its ideal surf conditions, water depth and regular wave action.
You will be provided with high quality surf boards and start the lesson up on the sand. Here you will learn safety tips, proper surf etiquette and instructions on how to “pop” up on your board using your arms and legs to quickly go from laying down to standing. For a beginner this part takes practice, but once you have managed to perfect the technique you will be ready in no time to start riding the waves.
Next your instructor will take you out in the water to give you patient encouragement as you discover how to find your way to a standing and riding position. During this fun filled 2 hour lesson you will have the full attention of your instructor, who has years of experience successfully teaching people how to surf. As you become familiar with the technique you’ll likely be up and surfing by the end of the lesson.
All of the instructors are surfing devotees who have grown up perfecting their skills and dabbling with new tricks along the way. If you are an experience surfer, you may want a lesson to learn some new moves. Don’t be surprised if your teacher has won a championship or two!

Included in this tour is a professional surf instructor, surf board, bottled water as well as transportation from Flamingo, Tamarindo and JW Marriot Guanacaste. Depending on your pick-up location, one way transportation from your hotel to the beach can take between 15 and 45 minutes. The total time of this tour including round trip transportation and the surf lesson takes between 2.5 to 3.5 hours. Please bring sun protection, towel, bathing suit, and rash guard (water shirt). Rash guard shirts are also available to rent for an extra charge from your instructor. See ya topside!
