You’ll be rappelling down several waterfalls and zipping across a pristine rainforest river canyon in this fun filled adventure. Canyoning is using the rappelling ropes to descend vertically down through waterfalls. Canyoning and rappelling are excellent ways to reach out and touch the adventure that will get your adrenaline pumping.
Your tour begins when you are picked up from your hotel and driven to the canyoning site near Turrialba at Calle Chirraca. Turrialba’s pristine rainforests are the perfect setting for spending time in nature while being centrally located and easily accessible from many surrounding towns.
Your professional and bilingual guide will fit you with high-quality harnesses and helmets before taking you on a 10 minute hike to your first waterfall. There you’ll receive instructions and practice the technique on a canyoning simulator that sits only a few feet off the ground.
When you are feeling ready, your guide will hook you up to the ropes then you’ll turn around and lean your body away from the cliff slowly scaling the waterfall’s edge with your feet. Another guide will be at the bottom holding onto your rope and cheering you on as you get closer and closer to the ground. You will quickly get pumped up with adrenaline propelling you on to the next series of zip line cables and other three waterfall rappels!
In between the waterfalls you’ll be flying over four zip line cables providing a good mix of jungle activity keeping things exciting. Your guide will hook your harness to the strong steel cables and you’ll go gliding above the treetops, witnessing amazing views of the surrounding landscape.
There is also a suspension bridge approximately 135 feet long that hangs from one part of the canyon to the other. Again your harness will be secured as you walk across, so feel free to look down!
This is a beautiful area to explore and there’s no better way to do it than by scaling the rock faces of the waterfalls, walking in air on the hanging bridge then zipping through the trees like a wild monkey. Welcome to Costa Rica!
When you hike back to the main entrance, you can use the changing rooms to change into your dry clothes and then settle down for a delicious lunch prepared for you in the on-site restaurant.
This tour includes admission fee, bilingual guides, safety equipment, lunch, and transportation from Turrialba. It may take from 15 minutes to 1 hour to get from your hotel to the start of the tour depending on your pick-up location. Combined time of canyoning/ziplining/rappelling activities, lunch, and round-trip transportation usually takes from 3.5 to 5 hours. For ages 7 years old and up.
Please bring clothes to get wet in (no jeans), enclosed tennis or hiking shoes, insect repellent, towel, and a change of dry clothes for after the tour.
