Sustainable Hotels

Costa Rica is a world leader in protecting natural resources that in turn create an economically sustainable tourist industry. Hotels have jumped on the bandwagon by using locally sourced sustainable building materials with careful construction to least impact the surrounding environment. Throughout the country, there are hundreds of sustainable hotels, certified by a program called Costa Rica Sustainable Tourism (CST) rewarding businesses that implement programs to reduce their consumption of resources and production of waste, as well as promote community involvement and education. To stay at a sustainable hotel does not mean you are limited to a rustic ecolodge. In fact, many large luxury hotels engage in award winning sustainability programs. By staying at hotels that have a positive impact on their surroundings, you become an active participant in protecting the environment while encouraging other hotels to follow by example creating a better world for future generations.
