Osa Explorer Costa Rica Nature Vacation We will await your arrival at Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) near San Jose. After a quick meet and greet, a private transfer will take you to the Country Inn and Suites, a nearby airport hotel. Built around a central courtyard, the hotel offers a swimming pool and lounge area surrounded by tropical gardens.

The next morning, you’ll be flown down to Osa Peninsula, where you’ll stay at the beachfront Pirate Cove Hotel on Drake Bay. Remote Drake Bay provides the perfect jumping off point for exploring Corcovado National Park and Cano Island, only accessible by boat. Pirate Cove Hotel is a rustic, no-frills ecolodge offering guests direct beach access and a unique tropical experience with outstanding customer service. You’ll enjoy cooling off in the hotel’s small but refreshing swimming pool.

On the third day, you’ll cruise out to the protected reefs rimming Cano Island and go snorkeling. The island was once a ceremonial location for ancient indigenous tribes and legend has it that Sir Francis Drake may have hidden treasure there. While traveling by boat, it is not uncommon to see dolphins, sea turtles, and during certain times of the year, whales frequenting these waters.

The following day, you’ll go by boat down a beautiful stretch of untouched coastline to reach Sirena Station at Corcovado National Park. Again, you may see dolphins, turtles, rays or whales along the way. When you arrive, it will be a wet-landing, so be prepared! Your guide will take you deep into the protected jungle, hiking the natural habitat of many species of native wildlife, including monkeys, sloths, tapir, and even wild jungle cats!

Your last day on the Osa, designed to give you time on your own, has no scheduled tours. You can enjoy swimming or lounging at the beach or exploring nearby Drake Bay. If you would like to customize your itinerary to add a tour, that can be easily arranged.

On the sixth day, you’ll fly back to San Jose and once again stay overnight at the Country Inn and Suites where you can enjoy the pool and tropical gardens. On the seventh day, we’ll provide a transfer back to SJO for your return flight home.

Day 1: Welcome to Costa Rica and on to your Airport Hotel in the Central Valley

We’ll await your arrival at the San Jose Int’l Airport (SJO) and then provide a private transfer to a nearby airport hotel, Country Inn and Suites. Welcome to Costa Rica!

Day 2: Flight to Drake Bay (Osa Peninsula) (B, D)

You’ll be taken to the airport for a domestic flight down to Drake Bay and the Pirate Cove Hotel, a beachfront ecolodge. You’ll have time in the afternoon to enjoy the beach or explore Drake Bay. Note: the domestic flight has a size and weight limit on luggage per person.

Day 3: Snorkeling at Cano Island (B, L, D)

You’ll cruise to Cano Island by boat for a guided snorkeling experience over protected reefs teeming with colorful fish. On the way to the island you’ll likely see a variety of birds and marine life.

Day 4: Corcovado National Park, Sirena Station (B, L, D)

You’ll be going again by boat down a scenic stretch of protected coastline to reach Sirena Station located within Corcovado National Park. After a wet landing, a naturalist guide will lead a 2 to 3 hour hike pointing out wildlife.

Day 5: Beach and Exploring Day (B, L, D)

Designed to give you time on your own, no tours are planned for today. You might like to enjoy swimming at the beach, explore Drake Bay or just lounge around the hotel’s pool in a hammock. If you would rather do something adventurous, your itinerary can be easily customized to add a tour.

Day 6: Flight back to San Jose (B)

You’ll fly by domestic flight back to San Jose where you will once again stay at the Country Inn Hotel and Suites near the airport. Here you can enjoy the courtyard pool surrounded by tropical gardens.

Drake Bay on the Osa Peninsula

Drake Bay, an outpost town on the remote northern shore of Osa Peninsula, is difficult to access by car as there are multiple river crossings that are often impassible. Most visitors arrive by plane or boat, leaving the area pristine and relatively untouched. From Drake Bay, Cano Island and Corcovado National Park can only be reached by boat. All of the hotels are ecolodges and most are quite primitive, running on generator electricity during set hours.
